Everyone must know how heavy a truck clutch is. Even friends who don't understand trucks should have read the news about that. Accidents caused by truck clutch failure are often shocking. Since truck clutches are so important, how often should the clutch plates be changed?
First of all, let's take a look at the main functions of the clutch. Only by knowing the function can we better understand its importance.
1. Make the truck start smoothly
When starting, the engine and the gearbox are temporarily separated by the clutch, and then the clutch is gradually engaged. Due to the phenomenon of slippage between the active part and the driven part of the clutch, the torque transmitted from the clutch plate can be gradually increased from zero. The driving force of the truck is also gradually increased so that the truck starts smoothly.
2. Prevent overloading of the drive train
Due to the inertia of rotation, the transmission system connected with the engine still keeps its original speed so that the parts of the transmission system are easy to be damaged.
The clutch transmits torque by friction, so when the load in the drive train exceeds the torque that the friction can transmit, the main and driven parts of the clutch will automatically slip, so the car clutch plate of the truck prevents overloading of the drive train.
3. Easy to shift
During truck driving, different transmission gears are often used to adapt to changing driving conditions. The clutch temporarily separates the engine from the transmission so that the load is removed from the meshing force-transferring gears in the transmission.
The circumferential speed of the gears to be meshed can be made equal or close to the same by using appropriate shifting action, so as to avoid or reduce the impact between the gears.
4. Clutch plates reduce torsional shock
The engine is on the power stroke, and the combustion chamber gas explodes to produce a great shock torque. In other strokes, the engine is reverse dragged by inertia.
The inertia of the rotating system of the engine itself can reduce the torsional vibration, but the remaining impact force still has an adverse effect on the subsequent gearbox and drive shaft. The damping spring in the clutch can significantly reduce the torsional shock caused by the engine and prolong the life of the transmission gear.
The clutch plate is the medium that transmits engine power to the transmission. The material of the clutch plate is similar to that of the brake pad, and its friction plate has a certain high temperature resistance.
In theory, the clutch plate is a friction material, and like the brake pad, it is a high consumable. But in fact, many driver masters only replace the clutch plate once a few years, and some car owners even wait until the clutch plate smells burnt before replacing it.
However, there is no specific replacement cycle for the clutch plate. Generally, whether to replace it can be decided according to the following two situations.
1. Mileage
It is mainly a problem of operation. It can also be said that if your car is still very powerful, you will change the clutch plate. Of course, this sometimes requires an experienced repairman to judge. Sometimes drivers can also judge according to their daily differences. The general requirement is that the clutch plate needs to be forced to be replaced after 100,000 kilometers.
2. Loss and usage
It can't run at high speed, can only run 80--90 kilometers when you step on the accelerator (because the clutch slips). When driving in first gear, you can feel the vehicle swaying quite a lot.
At this time, you need to check the clutch plate and pressure plate. Secondly, if you feel jerky when you step on and lift the clutch, it is also necessary to replace the car clutch plate of the truck.
